A Special Quote

Books 2.16.15

Often times when I am reading a book I will jot down a quote that I like. Recently I found this written on a small piece of paper wedged in the back of my desk drawer. I have no idea what book I wrote this down from, but I love what it says.

“Be proud of every scar on your heart. Each holds a life times worth of lessons.”

Wallace Stegner Famous Quote

Wallace Stegner is one of the greatest thought provoking writers of all time, and one of my favorite author’s.

I am terribly glad to be alive; and when I have wit enough to think about it, terribly proud to be a man and an American, with all the rights and privileges that those words connote; and most of all I am humble before the responsibilities that are also mine. For no right comes without a responsibility, and being born luckier than most of the world’s millions, I am also born more obligated. Wallace Stegner

Henry David Thoreau

Henry David Thoreau

Henry David Thoreau, a Harvard graduate, was an American author, poet, philosopher, abolitionist, naturalist, tax resister, development critic, surveyor and historian. He was born July 12, 1817 in Concord, MA and died May 6, 1862.

Thoreau’s books, articles, essay’s, journals and poetry total over twenty volumes.

This is one of my favorite quotes written from his journals:

November 16, 1830:

The question is not what you look at, but what you see.

My Favorite Quotes From Dolly Parton

DollyI just love Dolly Parton!  Every time I hear these three quotes from her I have to laugh.

“Lot’s of women buy just as many makeup things as I do.  They just don’t wear them all at the same time.”

“It costs a lot of money to look this cheap, honey.”

“It’s a good thing I was born a girl, otherwise I’d be a drag queen.”

Dolly is a musician, singer-songwriter, actress, philanthropist and author.

A quote

I’m famous for writing things down I hear or read that appeal to me. The problem is, I usually write them down on whatever I can get my hands on, at the moment, and I end up finding little notes all over my house. Today, in a basket I keep my kitchen scissors in, I found one of those tiny pieces of paper with a quote written on it. I have no idea who wrote it, but I thought I’d share it anyway.

“His heart rose up briefly, like a scrap of paper on a breath of wind, then quickly settled back to the ground.”
